As a professional makeup artist and a woman, I believe each of us is beautiful with or without makeup.
Each and every one of us has a unique story that has shaped who we are today – flaws and imperfections included. During years of working in the beauty field, I have seen many amazing ladies, and one of the first questions I always ask is “what is your favorite feature about yourself?” We need to learn to love ourselves the way we are, after all that is who we will be spending the rest of our lives with.
But also, a little TLC can go a long way. Makeup is there to bring out and emphasize the beauty you already have. It can help you shine from the inside out and just make your day better. Whether you like a more natural look, prefer at least a 5 minute bronzer and mascara touch, or you like to go all out, here are four reasons why you should consider getting your makeup and hair done by a professional when you are planning on taking professional photos.
Give yourself some “me-time”
How often do you get to sit down, relax, and let someone else do the work? Our everyday lives are so busy, and we have so much scheduled. We keep running from one thing to the next as we try to cram so much into the day. It’s important to “schedule” time for yourself just like you schedule everything else.
Taking care of yourself is a part of taking care of those around you – you can’t pour from an empty cup. Getting your hair and makeup done can be a part of that pampering experience where you get to sit back and wind down a little. A lot of my clients find this process relaxing; I have even heard many times that it makes them feel “like a diva”. Why not give yourself that status every once in a while? Not all of us are full–time divas (which could be exhausting – who knows?)
Professional expertise. It’s not just words
You may have asked yourself – why go to someone else when I already know how to do my own makeup? I’ll tell you that a good professional hair and makeup artist will make you feel beautiful without compromising your personal style. I always make sure to ask my clients about their preferences and techniques before I start. I want them to look like themselves, but in addition I have some tricks up my sleeve.
Just think about it – during years of experience I’ve tried so many products, seen lots of different faces and practiced thousands of techniques. I know what works best with what skin tone and face shape, what shows best in what light, and what will last through it all. You could possibly score some techniques for yourself to use in the future – good pros are always happy to share. After all, life is a constant learning process, it’s good to be on the lookout for new knowledge.
No matter what it is you are getting glammed up for – I have one goal – it’s for you to feel beautiful on the inside and out.
These memories will last for the rest of your life
Most likely, you are getting photos taken by a professional photographer to document a special part of your life. Whether it is a wedding, a birthday, precious time with your family or anything else, the reason you do it is to keep the memory of that particular day.
When you feel like the best version of yourself you are more likely to have the best day, and a day like that is the one to hold on to. Every time you look at that wonderful photo you will remember that special feeling.
It’s a great confidence booster for everyone
Professional hair and makeup are not just for adults or more mature individuals. It can also be a great way to boost self-confidence in teenagers who are reluctant to take photos or have never been professionally pampered. Professional makeup and styling help teens see themselves in a new, more put-together light and increases confidence for photography sessions and portraits.
A little makeup goes a long way, which is why I only ever enhance features and don’t go overboard. Professional hair, makeup, and styling allows everyone a bit of time before their photo session to relax and feel pampered. It’s a great way to help people get excited and feel more at-ease about the entire process.
